St Benedict's expectation is that homework is part of the curriculum. Year 2 to 6 complete homework online.
The purpose of homework at St Benedict's is:
To encourage children to choose to use and organise their time in a healthy balance.
To consolidate and reinforce work given at school.
To develop a healthy attitude towards study time.
To allow children to develop positive study habits.
To inform parents of student progress.
To allow parents the opportunity to be partners in their child's continuing education.
Recommended Homework Time per Weeknight
Reading: 10 mins parent reading to child
Written work: 10 mins
Reading: 10 mins assisted reading, 10 mins parent reading to child, 5 mins sight words.
Written work: 15 mins
Reading: 10 mins assisted reading, 15 mins independent reading
Written work: 20 mins
Reading: 30 mins independent reading
Normally teachers will outline their homework procedures at their Parent/Teacher information meeting held in February of each year. At other times parents should consult their child's teacher in order to familiarise themselves with the procedure in each class. Parents are expected to support teachers in their supervision of homework.
